A recent AARP bulletin highlighted several interesting cases of fraud and suggested actions to reduce the possibility of being defrauded. Following are a few of the tips:
- Always trust your family lawyer / doctor and never a lawyer / doctor from TV or a junk mail solicitation
- Seniors need to have a trusted family member to oversee your in home services and perhaps should remove important documents from your house
- Do not send money to tv or internet mortgage consultants regarding housing refinance
- Always use a local funeral home regulated by Tennessee Funeral prearrangements
- Warn other family members and perhaps law enforcement about suspicious situations
